Length converter
Millimeters to feet.
Translate a millimeter drawing dimension into a foot-based length without changing the underlying measurement.
The marker shows the fractional part of one inch. This diagram illustrates tick positions; it is not a physical-size ruler.
Conversion formula
feet = millimeters ÷ 304.8
Enter the source length above. The result updates immediately. These calculations use exact length definitions: 1 m = 100 cm = 1000 mm, 1 in = 25.4 mm, and 1 ft = 12 in. Only the displayed answer and fractional ruler mark are rounded. The feet-and-inches output splits a length into whole feet and remaining inches; decimal feet do not encode an inch count.
Worked example
2400 mm is approximately 7.874016 ft, or 7 ft 10.4882 in. It is shorter than 8 ft, which equals 2438.4 mm. Substituting an eight-foot stock length for a 2400 mm specification therefore adds 38.4 mm before trimming.

|---|---|---|
| 0.032808 | ≈ 3/8 in | |
| 0.328084 | ≈ 3 15/16 in | |
| 0.984252 | ≈ 11 13/16 in | |
| 1 | ≈ 12 in | |
| 1.64042 | ≈ 19 11/16 in | |
| 3.28084 | ≈ 39 3/8 in | |
| 3.937008 | ≈ 47 1/4 in | |
| 5.905512 | ≈ 70 7/8 in | |
| 7.874016 | ≈ 94 1/2 in | |
| 9.84252 | ≈ 118 1/8 in |
When to use this conversion
Use this for sheet materials, door dimensions, shelving, and plans written in millimeters when materials are sold by the foot. Distinguish the converted design dimension from the stock length you buy. The tool does not account for saw kerf, edge finishing, joints, or construction tolerances.
A millimeter dimension may describe a nominal size rather than a measured finished size. Verify the supplier specification before deciding that two differently labeled materials are interchangeable. For dimensions below a foot, the inches converter may be easier to read.
Exact conversion versus a ruler reading
The unit relationship is exact, but a measured object may have uncertainty. At 1/16 inch, the maximum rounding difference is half a tick: 1/32 inch, or 0.79375 mm. The calculator shows the actual rounding difference for your value. Use a finer division only if the source measurement and physical instrument support that precision.
Next steps
Numerical conversion needs no display calibration. Comparing a physical object against your screen does. Use the ruler for small objects, a verified paper ruler away from your display, or an appropriate calibrated instrument for safety-critical measurements.
