About OG Online Ruler
A ruler that is ready when you need it
OG Online Ruler is a free browser-based measurement tool created for moments when a physical ruler is not nearby. It turns the usable area of a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop display into a configurable ruler with centimeter, millimeter, inch, and pixel scales.
The tool is designed for students, designers, developers, makers, crafters, and anyone who needs to check the size of a small object. It requires no account or installation. Open the ruler, calibrate the display, select a unit, and begin measuring.
Why calibration matters
Screens with the same pixel resolution can have very different physical sizes. That means an uncalibrated browser cannot assume that a fixed number of pixels always equals one real inch. OG Online Ruler addresses this with automatic detection, known-device profiles, screen-diagonal calculation, and credit-card calibration.
For the most reliable result, keep browser zoom at 100 percent and calibrate again after moving the window to a different monitor. Measurements made with any screen-based tool remain estimates and should not replace certified equipment for medical, engineering, construction, or safety-critical work.
Built around useful controls
Rulers can be placed independently on the top, right, bottom, and left edges. Movable guides help mark an endpoint, the crosshair provides two-axis coordinates, and Measure Box compares width and height. Fullscreen mode creates more measuring space, while keyboard shortcuts make common actions faster.
Our principles
- Useful first: the measurement tool appears immediately.
- Private by default: calibration settings remain in local browser storage.
- Accessible: controls support labels, focus states, and keyboard use.
- Transparent: the interface explains why calibration affects accuracy.
