Length converter
Feet to centimeters.
Convert a decimal-foot length to centimeters and verify how the fractional foot relates to inches.
The marker shows the fractional part of one inch. This diagram illustrates tick positions; it is not a physical-size ruler.
Conversion formula
centimeters = feet × 30.48
Enter the source length above. The result updates immediately. These calculations use exact length definitions: 1 m = 100 cm = 1000 mm, 1 in = 25.4 mm, and 1 ft = 12 in. Only the displayed answer and fractional ruler mark are rounded. The feet-and-inches output splits a length into whole feet and remaining inches; decimal feet do not encode an inch count.
Worked example
5.5 ft equals 167.64 cm. Half a foot is six inches, so this value also means 5 ft 6 in. In contrast, 5 ft 5 in is 5 + 5/12 feet, approximately 5.416667 ft, and equals 165.1 cm.
Conversion table: ft → cm
Select a source value to load it into the calculator. Decimal results are displayed to at most six places; inch fractions in this table are rounded to 1/16 inch.
| Feet (ft) | Centimeters (cm) | Nearest inch fraction |
|---|---|---|
| 15.24 | ≈ 6 in | |
| 30.48 | ≈ 12 in | |
| 60.96 | ≈ 24 in | |
| 91.44 | ≈ 36 in | |
| 121.92 | ≈ 48 in | |
| 152.4 | ≈ 60 in | |
| 167.64 | ≈ 66 in | |
| 182.88 | ≈ 72 in | |
| 198.12 | ≈ 78 in | |
| 213.36 | ≈ 84 in | |
| 243.84 | ≈ 96 in | |
| 304.8 | ≈ 120 in |
When to use this conversion
Use this for heights, furnishing dimensions, and measurements supplied in decimal feet. Enter feet as a decimal or a fraction of a foot, not a feet-and-inches string. If your source says 5 ft 6 in, enter 5.5. The tool displays a separate feet-and-inches result to help you check the interpretation.
One international foot is exactly 30.48 cm. Historical survey-foot definitions are not used here. A numerical conversion cannot determine whether a quoted dimension includes packaging, mounting brackets, or a product’s usable interior space.
Exact conversion versus a ruler reading
The unit relationship is exact, but a measured object may have uncertainty. At 1/16 inch, the maximum rounding difference is half a tick: 1/32 inch, or 0.79375 mm. The calculator shows the actual rounding difference for your value. Use a finer division only if the source measurement and physical instrument support that precision.
Next steps
Numerical conversion needs no display calibration. Comparing a physical object against your screen does. Use the ruler for small objects, a verified paper ruler away from your display, or an appropriate calibrated instrument for safety-critical measurements.
