Length converter
Centimeters to meters.
Express heights and everyday dimensions in meters without losing the original centimeter detail.
The marker shows the fractional part of one inch. This diagram illustrates tick positions; it is not a physical-size ruler.
Conversion formula
meters = centimeters ÷ 100
Enter the source length above. The result updates immediately. These calculations use exact length definitions: 1 m = 100 cm = 1000 mm, 1 in = 25.4 mm, and 1 ft = 12 in. Only the displayed answer and fractional ruler mark are rounded. The feet-and-inches output splits a length into whole feet and remaining inches; decimal feet do not encode an inch count.
Worked example
185 cm is 1.85 m. A table that is 75 cm high is 0.75 m high. If a form requests a height in meters, entering 185 would be off by a factor of one hundred. Use the converted number and the requested unit together.
Conversion table: cm → m
Select a source value to load it into the calculator. Decimal results are displayed to at most six places; inch fractions in this table are rounded to 1/16 inch.
| Centimeters (cm) | Meters (m) | Nearest inch fraction |
|---|---|---|
| 0.01 | ≈ 3/8 in | |
| 0.05 | ≈ 1 15/16 in | |
| 0.1 | ≈ 3 15/16 in | |
| 0.25 | ≈ 9 13/16 in | |
| 0.5 | ≈ 19 11/16 in | |
| 0.75 | ≈ 29 1/2 in | |
| 1 | ≈ 39 3/8 in | |
| 1.5 | ≈ 59 1/16 in | |
| 1.7 | ≈ 66 15/16 in | |
| 1.85 | ≈ 72 13/16 in | |
| 2 | ≈ 78 3/4 in | |
| 3 | ≈ 118 1/8 in |
When to use this conversion
Use this for dimensions on furniture listings, classroom problems, height forms, and measurements that need a consistent metric unit. This converter handles length only. If a floor plan needs square meters, first convert both length and width to meters, then multiply those dimensions.
A centimeter is one hundredth of a meter, not one thousandth. To check your work, multiply the meter answer by 100 and compare it with the source measurement. Measurement uncertainty stays the same physical size after conversion.
Exact conversion versus a ruler reading
The unit relationship is exact, but a measured object may have uncertainty. At 1/16 inch, the maximum rounding difference is half a tick: 1/32 inch, or 0.79375 mm. The calculator shows the actual rounding difference for your value. Use a finer division only if the source measurement and physical instrument support that precision.
Next steps
Numerical conversion needs no display calibration. Comparing a physical object against your screen does. Use the ruler for small objects, a verified paper ruler away from your display, or an appropriate calibrated instrument for safety-critical measurements.
